KI Encompass™ CAD Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does Encompass CAD install or modify during installation?

A: Encompass CAD is a very simple installation. Our Install Shield program installs some custom menus and files in their own folders (typically C:\ECAD), creates a desktop shortcut, and a new AutoCAD profile. The profile is launched from the shortcut. Encompass CAD also installs Autolisp routines and support files. If you are a 2020 Technologies CAP user you may have minor issues since CAP does not create a profile. It assumes that it will be the only spaceplanning piece of software installed whereas with Encompass CAD we do not make that assumption. The fix is to create a CAP profile and add that extension to your CAP shortcut. If you need assistance feel free to give us a call and we will walk you through the 5 minute process.

Q: How do I remove Encompass CAD?

A: To remove Encompass CAD you may simply delete the shortcut and 'ECAD' folder. Secondly you should change your default profile to your preference.

Q: Does Encompass CAD send, track, or broadcast any of my computer or CAD information?

A: No. It does check the FTP website upon startup to see if there are updates to the programming for you to install. An internet connection is required for this to happen.

Q: Can this FTP website check be disabled?

A: Yes, but it is recommended you leave it on so you are assured of having the latest Encompass CAD version. To disable simply uncheck the 'Receive Update Notifications' box. To get there just open up Encompass CAD and type in 'CFGECAD' without the quotes in the Command line.

Q. Can Encompass CAD be used for non KI product?

A: No. It was designed by KI for KI product.

Q: Is Encompass CAD easy to use without training?

A: Encompass CAD has been made fairly easy to use for someone who knows KI product and AutoCAD. AutoCAD is a powerful tool that requires prior training and many hours of usage.

Q: Will Encompass CAD run with any version of AutoCAD LT?

A: No, the programming is too advanced for the 'light' versions of AutoCAD.
